September 2011 will have a couple of very interesting auctions dedicated to street art / urban art / graffiti art. Aguttes auctioneers have a street art catalogue ready with 226 lots.

In our humble opinion, here are the more interesting lots:

8. SEEN

A large format with a classic "graffiti" background and a fantastic "Super Dupond" in the style of Gottlieb. At last , Seen reproduces one of the French comics icon that is SuperDupond" rather than using the over seen caracters of Marvel and Disney.

"Geisha" spraypaint on canvas by Tony Perez

We got lucky and managed to source two great stencils from Tony Perez (Antonio Perez Alverez, April 4th 1965 December 21st 2010), one of the most talented stencilist, who passed away in December 2010. There would be a lot to write about Tony Perez, his kindness andhis talent...so we decided to show the "Geisha" piece and copy one of his last comment on life.
"Being raised in a place where differences were not only accepted but celebrated helps a child gain a greater sense of self worth, or at least feel that it is more important to be yourself and find your own path in life rather than trying to fit in to preconceived social groups. We all graduate towards people with similar ideas and views as ourselves, but to be someone you are not just to fit in, is to me one of the biggest injustices we can do to ourselves. That is not to say we should be different just for the sake of being different. We need to know who we are before we let someone do that for us. We should also celebrate what makes others different, and have an open mind to different views, cultures and aspects of life; social, ethnic and every thing in between. A social commentary on present circumstances here in the States is something I am trying to incorporate into my art work lately."-Tony Perez
